The All Progressives Congress Screening Committee has disqualified former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and six other aspirants from contesting in the party’s Osun State governorship primary scheduled for December 13, 2025.
According to the committee’s report submitted to the APC National Working Committee on Friday, the affected aspirants failed to meet the mandatory nomination requirements outlined in the party’s constitution and primary guidelines.
Those barred include Omisore, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare.
The committee, led by Chief Obinna Uzoh, noted that the disqualified aspirants did not provide proof of sponsorship by at least five financially up-to-date and fully registered party members in each Local Government Area of the state, as required by Articles 9.3(i), 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution, and Paragraph 6(c) of the 2025 primary guidelines.
Only two aspirants—Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji—successfully met all the screening conditions and were cleared to participate in the primary election.
The screening process, according to the report, involved a thorough review of all submitted documents and interviews to assess each aspirant’s preparedness, adherence to party rules, and suitability.
The committee also confirmed receiving a petition from the Osun APC Renewal Group, which raised concerns about compliance with nomination rules. It said the issues were “credible and substantial,” and that the rules must be applied uniformly to all aspirants.
Beyond the disqualifications, the committee observed deep internal divisions within the Osun APC and urged the party leadership to immediately begin reconciliation efforts to ensure unity ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
It recommended fair distribution of appointments, party positions, and campaign roles across all blocs in the state to prevent marginalisation and strengthen internal cohesion.
