The Bauchi State Police Command has taken a major step against drug trafficking with the arrest of a suspected dealer, Ogbu Simon, and the recovery of a large quantity of pharmaceutical narcotics allegedly supplied to communities in the Ningi axis.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, announced the arrest in a statement on Wednesday. He explained that officers acted on credible intelligence from a resident who reported the suspicious offloading of sacks at a shop belonging to the suspect on November 26, 2025.
According to Wakil, detectives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Surajo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu, conducted a coordinated raid on the shop. The operation reportedly led to the discovery of four large bags containing what police believed to be Tramadol and Diazepam (popularly called D5 or Yellow Voice).
Further investigation prompted the deployment of the Operation Restore Peace tactical team under CSP Abdulrazak Fada, who tracked and apprehended the suspect. Police say Simon confessed to distributing the controlled substances to markets within and outside Ningi.
Items recovered include:
17,500 sachets of suspected Tramadol, and
487 packs of suspected Diazepam (D5)
The seized drugs are estimated to be worth approximately N12.2 million.
Wakil added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, praised the swift response of officers and emphasized the Command’s continued commitment to combating drug-related crimes. He also urged residents to report suspicious activities to support law-enforcement efforts.
The suspect and the confiscated items are expected to be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution. The case has also been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department for deeper inquiry.
