UK Doctor Charged With Sexual Assault of 38 Patients

A 38-year-old doctor, Nathaniel Spencer from Quinton, Birmingham, has been charged with multiple serious sexual offences involving 38 patients at hospitals in the West Midlands, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The information was contained in a statement published on the Staffordshire Police website on Friday and retrieved by PUNCH Online on Saturday.

According to the police, Spencer faces:

15 counts of sexual assault

17 counts of assault by penetration

9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13

3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration

1 count of attempted assault by penetration

The CPS said the charges followed a “detailed and complex” investigation by the Staffordshire Police Public Protection Unit. The alleged offences reportedly took place between 2017 and 2021 at Royal Stoke University Hospital and Russells Hall Hospital.

Spencer is scheduled to appear before the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 20 January 2026.

Authorities declined to provide additional details, including the number of children involved, due to the ongoing nature of the case.

Spencer has been suspended from medical practice pending the outcome of the court process. He previously worked as a resident (junior) doctor at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust from 2017 to 2020, and later at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust from 2020 to 2021.

Both hospital trusts have opened dedicated helplines for anyone concerned about care they received during the period in question.

Dr. Paul Hudson, Operational Medical Director of The Dudley Group, acknowledged that the charges may cause distress and confirmed the trust has been cooperating fully with police investigators.

The General Medical Council also confirmed that Spencer remains suspended and that its own investigation will resume after the criminal proceedings conclude.
