Benin Detains 13 Soldiers Over Failed Coup Attempt

Beninese authorities have arrested around a dozen soldiers following an attempted coup in the West African nation, military and security sources confirmed to AFP on Sunday.

According to one senior source, 13 individuals were taken into custody, while another disclosed that all but one of the detainees are serving military personnel, with the remaining suspect being a former soldier.

The arrests reportedly include the alleged ringleaders behind the foiled plot.

The development came hours after widespread rumours of a coup spread across Cotonou, with residents observing increased security presence and unusual movements near key government locations.

Details surrounding the attempt remain limited as authorities continue investigations.
