Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms are beginning to yield results, despite the hardship currently faced by Nigerians.
Speaking on Saturday at the APC South-West stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, Uzodimma said Nigeria was in a severely distressed state before Tinubu took office.
He compared the nation’s pre-Tinubu condition to “a barren woman seeking a child,” adding that the President introduced bold reforms he described as “fertility drugs” to revive the economy.
> “Nigeria was like a barren woman looking for a child before President Bola Tinubu came. He introduced the fertility drugs needed. Yes, they came with pains, but we are seeing results,” Uzodimma said.
APC Governors Review Economy, Security
His remarks came shortly after a two-day meeting of the Progressive Governors’ Forum in Lagos, where APC governors reviewed the nation’s economic situation, the impact of Tinubu’s policies, and escalating insecurity.
Uzodimma, who is the national coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, conveyed the governors’ gratitude to Nigerians for enduring the economic shocks triggered by the reforms.
> “We thank you for your resilience in admitting the difficulties from the reforms. A more united and prosperous Nigeria is what we need,” he said.
On Rising Insecurity
Addressing recent increases in kidnappings and terrorist attacks, he insisted that Nigeria would prevail over its security challenges. He also questioned the anonymous funding sources behind criminal networks.
> “We have seen insecurity and banditry increase. Who are the people funding these criminalities? Progressive governors are united. Nigeria must win,” he stated.
Renewed Hope Ambassadors Push Grassroots Development
Uzodimma also explained the role of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a group created to take government policies directly to communities nationwide. According to him, the structure will operate at zonal, state, local government and ward levels under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme.
A key target, he said, is to establish at least 1,000 active businesses in every ward, leveraging the significant increase in federal allocations.
“FAAC has tripled to states. With this alignment, we will ensure that we have 1,000 active businesses in every ward in Nigeria,” he added.
