The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs has approved the ambassadorial nominations of two former ministers, Femi Fani-Kayode and Abdulrahman Dambazau.
The nominees, who previously served as Minister of Aviation and Minister of Interior, were asked to “take a bow and leave” after brief introductions—an established Senate tradition for individuals with significant public service records or prior legislative experience.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele defended the procedure, explaining that the privilege is reserved for nominees whose credentials and track records are already well known to lawmakers. He added that those who have served in the National Assembly automatically qualify for this fast-track process.
The confirmation of both nominees will now proceed to the full Senate.
Their appearance before the committee follows President Bola Tinubu’s submission of a list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate on November 29 for screening and approval.
