Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reiterated that security remains the cornerstone of his administration’s agenda, reassuring residents that protecting lives and property across Ondo State is non-negotiable as the yuletide season approaches.
The governor made the declaration on Wednesday during his ongoing tour of communities in Ose, Owo and Akure North Local Government Areas, part of a statewide outreach aimed at taking governance to the grassroots and acknowledging the support of residents.
“Our administration puts security at the top of OUR EASE agenda,” Aiyedatiwa told a gathering of local residents and stakeholders. “Security agencies remain on high alert to protect all our communities. We will not leave you alone and allow something bad to happen to you.”
He emphasised that criminal activities along border communities will not be tolerated, underscoring his commitment to a safer environment for all.
The governor’s comments come against the backdrop of recent attacks by suspected bandits in parts of the state — including communities in Akure North where over 20 residents were killed in separate incidents earlier this year — underscoring the urgency of strengthened security measures.
To this end, Aiyedatiwa praised the role of the Amotekun Rangers, noting that the establishment of a new Amotekun Rangers camp and the deployment of operatives have helped to significantly reduce criminal activities, allowing farmers and traders to work without fear. “The improved security situation in the state has restored public confidence and strengthened trust between the government and the people,” he said.
The governor also explained that his tour of the state’s 18 local government areas was meant not only to review progress on ongoing and completed projects, but also to extend goodwill and palliatives to residents in the run-up to Christmas.
In Ose Local Government Area, Aiyedatiwa further assured residents that rehabilitation works on bad roads would begin soon, linking improved infrastructure to broader development and peace of mind for citizens.
He also highlighted that interventions such as enhanced electricity supply, school shuttle services and other social programmes were made possible by reforms introduced under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which he said had strengthened the state’s capacity to deliver on key priorities.
With Christmas less than nine days away, the governor’s remarks are likely to resonate with communities still grappling with security challenges, reminding residents and stakeholders that government remains committed to fostering safety—even as local leaders and civil society continue to call for enhanced measures to curb violent crime.
