President Bola Ahmed Tinubu carried out a scheduled visit to Borno State, amid heightened vigilance by security authorities in the Northeast.
Ahead of the President’s arrival, the Borno State Police Command announced extensive measures to ensure the safety of residents and the smooth passage of official convoys. In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso said tactical teams, surveillance squads and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units were deployed to strategic locations across the state capital.
“The Borno State Police Command has deployed adequate security arrangements ahead of the visit of the President to Borno State scheduled for today, 20th December 2025,” the statement read. ASP Daso explained that certain major roads — including the parallel route from Airport Road to Shehu Road in Maiduguri—would experience temporary restrictions and diversions to facilitate VIP movement and reduce congestion.
He urged motorists and residents to exercise patience and comply with lawful instructions from security personnel, emphasizing the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property before, during, and after the presidential visit. Security officials also advised the public to report any suspicious activity to establish contacts provided for community vigilance.
The visit forms part of a broader three-state tour by President Tinubu that includes engagements in Bauchi and Lagos states. According to government sources, while in Maiduguri the President was scheduled to commission developmental projects executed by both the federal government and the Borno State Government, as well as attend a high-profile wedding ceremony in the state capital.
After completing his Maiduguri engagements, President Tinubu was expected to proceed to Bauchi to condole with the family of the late Islamic cleric Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi. Following these official and social duties, he will travel to Lagos to spend the end-of-year festive period.
This visit comes against the backdrop of ongoing efforts by the federal government to maintain stability in the Northeast amid persistent security challenges, including insurgency and communal unrest. Authorities have repeatedly emphasised a coordinated approach between federal and state security agencies to safeguard communities across the region.
