The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has concluded a comprehensive training programme for 1,300 ward agents as part of its preparations for the party’s upcoming electronic membership registration exercise. The training, officials say, is designed to ensure a smooth and successful e-registration process ahead of nationwide activities scheduled to begin in January 2026.
The exercise, which took place across four designated training centres in the state capital, was overseen by the APC’s state e-registration coordinator, Chief Flavour Eze, who guided journalists on a tour of the facilities on Saturday. Eze explained that the party deliberately recruited and trained five agents from each of the 260 wards in Enugu State to carry out the planned registration activities.
“These ward agents have been trained to carry out the registration exercise, which is expected to commence in January 2026,” Eze said, describing the training as rigorous and aimed at minimizing errors once the exercise begins.
According to Eze, the training focused on practical aspects of the registration process, emphasizing accuracy and adherence to the party’s guidelines. “APC wants to ensure that there is no mistake during the registration because if we don’t get it right, there will be a problem, so we are trying to make sure that everybody is being registered in the right way,” he said. He added that he was pleased with the agents’ grasp of the material: “I am happy they understood what they were being taught.”
Beyond technical instruction, the state coordinator underscored the significance of the ward agents’ role within the party’s grassroots structure. He reminded the trainees that they are “the pillars of the party in Enugu State,” and urged them to leverage their training to deliver effectively on their assignments once the e-registration begins.
Eze also outlined plans to extend party mobilisation efforts into rural areas, noting that additional canvassers will be deployed to villages to assist with both registration and grassroots outreach. “We are training five persons per ward and we will still go to the villages to get canvassers on how they will be able to canvass to get more members as well,” he said.
Commenting on the broader political context, Eze mentioned that the Enugu State Government has pledged logistical support for the party’s mobilisation efforts. He urged Enugu residents to embrace the registration process and applauded the government’s initiatives, which he said include empowerment packages for citizens aligned with the registration timeline.
The APC has expressed confidence that its well-prepared network of trained ward agents will help it complete its e-registration ahead of the national deadline of January 30, 2026, a requirement set by the party leadership as part of its strategic renewal ahead of the 2027 general elections.
