The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, as well as Thursday, January 1, 2026, for the New Year celebrations.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In the statement, Tunji-Ojo encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the values associated with the festive season, including love, peace, humility, and sacrifice. He also called on citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity, to pray for national peace, improved security, and progress.
The minister further urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and security-conscious during the celebrations and extended wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
