The Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, Mrs. Okunola, on Monday formally presented the 2026 fiscal year budget estimate of ₦7.2 billion to members of the Local Government Council in a ceremony held at the council headquarters.
In her address, Mrs. Okunola outlined the strategic objectives of the proposed budget, stressing its design as a roadmap for local development and alignment with broader government priorities. She said the appropriation plan was crafted with key focus on community-level service delivery and security enhancement, a response to the prevailing challenges in the region.
“This budget is structured to support the federal government’s initiatives to combat terrorism, banditry, and all forms of insecurity threatening our people and economic activities,” Mrs. Okunola said.
She emphasised that funds would be judiciously allocated across sectors to strengthen grassroots governance, improve essential infrastructure, and deliver tangible benefits to residents. Mrs. Okunola called for collaborative oversight from councillors, stakeholders, and community leaders to ensure that budget implementation translates into real improvements in the quality of life for citizens.
The budget presentation marks one of several local government budget unveilings taking place across Osun State as councils gear up to align their fiscal plans with state and federal development frameworks. Reports indicate that LG chairmen from other areas in the state have also commenced similar budget presentations to their legislative arms as part of the 2026 budget cycle.
Council members commended Mrs. Okunola for her leadership and the proactive engagement in financial planning. They emphasised the need for transparent execution and accountability, underscoring the importance of ensuring that the budget serves the needs of Irewole’s residents.
Observers note that the local government budget process in Osun is occurring against the backdrop of the state government’s larger fiscal planning, including the recently presented Osun State 2026 budget of ₦705 billion, which focuses on economic transformation and infrastructure expansion.
The Irewole budget proposal will now be subjected to further scrutiny and defence before it can be formally adopted and funded for the 2026 fiscal year.
