Fuji music legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1, has formally withdrawn from the race for the Awujale of Ijebuland, ending his legal challenge against the ongoing selection process.
The Fuji icon filed a notice of discontinuation at the Ogun State High Court on Monday, December 22, 2025. His legal team, led by Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, submitted the notice following a ruling by High Court Judge A. A. Omoniyi, who dismissed KWAM 1’s application for an interim injunction to halt the selection process. The substantive suit was still scheduled for hearing on January 14, 2026, but KWAM 1 opted not to pursue it.
KWAM 1, who holds the title of Olori Omooba of Ijebuland, had been declared ineligible to contest for the Awujale throne by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. The ruling house stated that he was not a bona fide member and therefore could not contest under its platform—a decision that had sparked controversy given his prominence in Ijebu cultural life.
With this withdrawal, KWAM 1 has effectively ended his bid for the traditional stool through the courts, closing a chapter in the widely watched succession process for one of Yorubaland’s most influential monarchies.
