Davido Set to Join Accord Party Following Uncle’s Defection

Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced plans to formally join the Accord Party, following his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s, defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Davido made the announcement on Tuesday via his social media platforms, stating that he would visit Osun State to collect his Accord Party membership card at the Osun State Government House in Osogbo.

“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card at Imole House, Osogbo tomorrow… see you soon accordingly,” the singer wrote, tagging the governor in the post.

The development comes days after Governor Adeleke officially defected from the PDP to the Accord Party. The governor announced his move on December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the party. He also declared his intention to seek a second term in the 2026 governorship election on the party’s platform.

Governor Adeleke disclosed that he joined the Accord Party on November 6, 2025, after extensive consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders. According to him, the decision was informed by internal leadership challenges within the PDP and the alignment of Accord Party’s ideology with his administration’s welfare-driven policies.

“The Accord Party provides the platform for continuity and inclusive governance,” the governor said, adding that the people of Osun State would support his re-election bid in 2026.

He described the party as one committed to unity, progress, and the delivery of democratic dividends to residents of the state.

Governor Adeleke had earlier confirmed his resignation from the PDP on December 1, citing persistent leadership crises at the party’s national level. He said his resignation letter was submitted to party officials in Ede North Local Government Area on November 4.

Davido had previously reacted to his uncle’s exit from the PDP by reposting the announcement on social media with the caption, “Jeje…”.
