Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has annulled the results of the recently concluded Civil Service Commission (CSC) recruitment exercise following widespread allegations of irregularities and extortion.
The recruitment, reportedly involving over 4,000 staff members, was one of the largest in recent years but drew sharp criticism from applicants. Many accused officials of manipulating the process, excluding qualified candidates, and allegedly selling employment slots to the highest bidders.
Several affected applicants told The Legalobserver that despite meeting all requirements and passing screenings, their names were omitted from the final list, while individuals who allegedly did not participate were listed as successful. Desperate job seekers reportedly paid between N500,000 and N700,000 for positions, yet many were ultimately sidelined.
Reacting to the controversy, Governor Fintiri ordered the immediate cancellation of the recruitment outcome and approved the establishment of a probe panel to investigate all stages of the exercise, from shortlisting to final selection.
A senior government source said the governor emphasized that anyone found culpable would face decisive consequences, stressing that his administration will not tolerate exploitation of job seekers or abuse of public trust.
Civil society organizations and rights advocates have welcomed the cancellation, describing it as a corrective measure in a system often plagued by corruption.
