World heavyweight boxing star, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a road accident on Monday in Makun area of Ogun State, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred on a busy stretch of the highway when the vehicle conveying the boxer, a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN, crashed into a stationary truck. The circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation.
A source who participated in the rescue operation and spoke to PUNCH Online confirmed that Joshua sustained minor injuries in the incident. However, two persons reportedly died at the scene of the crash.
According to the eyewitness, Adeniyi Orojo, the accident happened close to Danco Filling Station, where emergency responders and bystanders assisted in rescue efforts.
Following the incident, fans and supporters of the boxer have taken to social media to express concern over his safety, while authorities continue to assess the cause of the crash.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Commandant, Akinbiyi Babatunde, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not answered at the time of filing this report.
