The Adamawa State Government has cancelled the “Cross Over Night” celebrations at the Unity Flyover in Jimeta, Yola, originally scheduled for December 31, 2025, into the early hours of January 1, 2026, citing growing concerns over security threats that could endanger the lives and property of residents.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Humwashi Wonosikou, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, explained that the decision was taken after careful consideration of safety and security intelligence.
“The Adamawa State Government has cancelled all activities planned for the Cross Over Night on Dec. 31, 2025, to Jan. 1, 2026, at the Unity Fly-Over in Jimeta, Yola,” the statement said, adding that “the safety and security of citizens remain our top priority.”
The government said the proactive cancellation was meant to protect residents from potential risks associated with large crowds gathering at the busy flyover during the year-end festivities. It emphasised ongoing collaboration with security agencies to maintain peace and stability throughout the state.
While acknowledging that the cancellation may disappoint those planning to attend, authorities urged calm and vigilance, particularly in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas. Citizens were also advised to avoid congregating in crowded areas and report any suspicious activities to security forces.
“Avoid any potential risks and report any suspicious activities to the authorities,” the statement added.
In addition to cancelling the event, Governor Fintiri’s administration stressed that it remains committed to working closely with security operatives to safeguard lives and property across Adamawa. The government plans to keep the public updated with further information as necessary.
Residents have been encouraged to celebrate responsibly within local communities and homes, while observing all security directives from state authorities.
