The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 17 suspects for offences ranging from armed robbery to drug dealing and vandalism, according to a statement issued on Thursday in the state capital, Dutse.
The multi-pronged operations, conducted over the past week across several local government areas, resulted in the seizure of firearms, narcotics, stolen cash, mobile phones and other incriminating exhibits, police spokesperson SP Shi’isu Adam said in a briefing to journalists
“The Jigawa State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, has recorded notable operational successes in combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state,” the statement partly reafd.
According to SP Adam, the police made several high-profile arrests during targeted raids: two suspects, Haruna Sale and Usman Damina Baushe, were apprehended in connection with armed robbery, and ₦143,250, mobile phones, and weapons were recovered; Usaini Abdullahi was taken into custody for armed robbery; two men, Ayuba Idris and Ibrahim Muhammad, were arrested for vandalising a transformer, stealing copper wires in the same Malam Madori area; three suspects were nabbed for armed robbery and culpable homicide, with a motorcycle and mobile phones seized as evidence; police uncovered several other suspects, Murtala Bature and Musa Yakubu, and led to the recovery of firearms, narcotics and other exhibits, SP Adam added.
“The police recovered a locally made rifle, five blocks of cannabis and various illicit drugs,” Adam said, highlighting the diverse nature of the recovered contraband.
Efforts also led to the seizure of two red Kasea motorcycles believed to have been used by suspected animal rustlers operating in Birniwa Local Government Area, although those suspects remain at large.
Additionally, reaffirming the command’s dedication to upholding law and order, SP Adam said the force would sustain its pressure on criminal networks until peace and security were restored and maintained across all parts of the state.
“We will continue to *intensify our efforts to ensure peace and security across the state,” he said, calling on residents to support police efforts by providing credible and timely information that could help prevent crime.
SP Adam also stated that all suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded, and underscored that the command would spare no effort in apprehending fleeing suspects and bringing them to justice.
The operations form part of ongoing efforts by the Jigawa police to crack down on crime, echoing previous drives that have seen numerous arrests for offences including burglary, drug peddling and robbery in recent months.
