Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on residents to work together with the state government, uphold civic responsibilities, and remain united to achieve a better future for the state.
In his New Year broadcast on Thursday, Makinde emphasised that government alone cannot build the state, urging citizens to support initiatives that promote productivity, peace, and lawfulness.
Reflecting on 2025, the governor highlighted key achievements, including the commissioning of major infrastructure in Ibadan and progress on the 110 km Ibadan Circular Road project. He also noted that Oyo State’s economy gained momentum through the International Agribusiness Summit and the International Tourism Summit, which attracted investment and strengthened the state’s productive base.
“The year 2025 tested our resolve, but we were hard pressed on every side and yet, we were not crushed,” Makinde said. “We remained consistent, focused, and committed to long-term development despite national challenges and political distractions.”
He stressed that governance must directly impact citizens’ lives, citing regular payment of civil servants’ salaries and the 13th-month bonus, as well as continued investments in healthcare, education, and youth engagement.
Looking ahead, Makinde said the signing of the 2026 Budget of Economic Expansion lays the foundation for further infrastructure development, job creation, and investment growth.
“Government alone cannot build the future we desire. We ask for continued cooperation, civic responsibility, and unity. Let us keep Oyo State peaceful, lawful, and productive,” the governor said.
Makinde concluded by wishing all residents renewed strength, peace, and prosperity in 2026.
