Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that several influential former leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including key allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have declared their support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The political figures named by the governor include former PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; former Rivers State Governor, Celestine Omehia; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara; and former Minister of Transportation, Abiye Sekibo.
Governor Fubara made the disclosure on Thursday during the New Year banquet hosted by the Rivers State Government at the Government House in Port Harcourt. He acknowledged the presence of the political heavyweights at the event, describing their attendance as a clear signal of alignment with the current administration at the federal level.
According to Fubara, their support dispels claims that he is working with individuals opposed to President Tinubu’s leadership.
The governor stated that he remains confident and unshaken despite ongoing political pressures, attributing his resilience to faith and a clear understanding of the political environment.
He said his administration had carefully put strategies in place to navigate political challenges and deliver on its mandate to the people of Rivers State.
Fubara dismissed criticisms from political opponents, noting that those who fail to properly interpret unfolding events often resort to unnecessary noise rather than meaningful engagement.
Looking ahead, the governor expressed optimism that 2026 would mark a turning point for the state, describing the year as one of “complete liberation” in which his administration’s development agenda would be fully realised.
He added that although his government had faced numerous challenges, those experiences had only strengthened his resolve, assuring supporters that nothing had been lost and that progress would continue.
Governor Fubara also maintained that his administration would not force anyone to act against their conscience, stressing that he governs without fear and remains confident that every challenge would be addressed in due course.
