Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has stated that he would only consider joining another political party if offered the presidential or vice-presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to supporters at his Kano residence on Wednesday, the former governor also criticized Governor Abba Yusuf’s planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it an act of betrayal.
Kwankwaso explained that despite invitations from the APC, he turned them down because no concrete offer was made to benefit him or his party leadership. “We asked what they would give me and the national chairman, but there was no answer,” he said.
He reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to its political ideology, Kwankwasiyya, which prioritizes support for the poor, youth employment, education, healthcare, agricultural development, and overall economic prosperity.
On Yusuf’s defection, Kwankwaso expressed disappointment, noting that the governor failed to consult him and that his actions effectively handed the Kano governorship back to the APC. “The most painful thing is that after everything we did to rescue Kano from Ganduje and the APC, you have now handed the governorship back to him free of charge,” he said.
Kwankwaso urged party supporters to remain vigilant and continue prayers, stressing the need for unity in Kano to secure victory in future elections.
