Video obtained from a reliable source shows Senator Kelvin Chukwu of Enugu East Senatorial District physically assaulting a constituent during a football competition he organised in Amurri, Enugu State.
The tournament, which began in December 2025, held its final match on Saturday, January 3, 2026. In the footage, a visibly angry Chukwu is seen engaging in a heated argument with the constituent before slapping him and chasing him off the pitch, while armed security operatives assigned to the senator also attacked the individual.
A source at the event said: “Senator Kelvin Chukwu slapped one of the players in his village Christmas competition after a minor disagreement. He has done nothing for the community over the years and only organised this event because elections are near.”
The constituent was later arrested and detained despite the assault by Chukwu and his security aides.
Chukwu recently defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He had secured the LP nomination following the assassination of his elder brother, Oyibo Chukwu, in February 2023. In the general election, Chukwu defeated former Enugu State governor Chimaroke Nnamani, polling 69,136 votes to Nnamani’s 48,701.
The video underscores the lawmaker’s aggressive conduct and raises serious questions about accountability to his constituents.
