President Tinubu Names Odusote First Female Director-General of Nigerian Law School

In a significant development for the Nigerian legal community, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially appointed Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School. This appointment will take effect on January 10, 2026, and spans a four-year term.

Dr. Odusote, age 54, currently serves as the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, making her the first woman to lead the institution since it was established in 1962. She will succeed the current Director-General, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9, 2026, after eight years in office.

Dr. Odusote earned her LL.B. degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She holds an LL.M from the same university, specializing in company and commercial law, and later completed her PhD in Law at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, focusing on Public Law and the administration of justice.

Since joining the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer, Dr. Odusote has held various roles, including head of the academic department, director of academics, and head of campus. She also spent time as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

Her extensive publishing record in reputable local and international law journals, along with presentations at numerous legal education conferences, underline her credentials in the field. Dr. Odusote has also contributed to committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

In her new role as Director-General, Dr. Odusote will oversee the school’s overall academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction across all campuses. She will serve as the primary liaison between the institution, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
