Aliko Dangote, president of the Dangote Group, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Farouk Ahmed, former chief executive officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), over alleged financial misconduct.
Dangote accused Ahmed of abuse of office, corrupt enrichment and living far beyond his lawful earnings as a public official.
In December 2025, Dangote had earlier submitted a petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) through his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, alleging corruption and financial impropriety.
Ahmed resigned from his position on December 17, 2025, following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
On January 7, 2026, Dangote formally withdrew the petition filed with the ICPC and subsequently submitted a fresh complaint to the EFCC, urging the agency to investigate Ahmed for alleged financial misconduct, violations of the code of conduct for public officers and other related offences.
In the petition addressed to EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede, Dangote said the commission was well positioned, alongside other anti-graft agencies, to investigate and prosecute corruption-related cases where sufficient evidence exists.
Dangote further alleged that Ahmed spent more than $7 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland over a six-year period. The schools listed in the petition include Montreux School, Aiglon College, Institut Le Rosey and La Garenne International School.
According to Dangote, the scale of the expenditure far exceeds what Ahmed could have legitimately earned throughout his career in public service, raising serious concerns about the source of the funds.
