On Friday, 9th, January 2026, the National Association of Kwara State Law Students (NAKLAS), National Headquarter (NHq) has petitioned the Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education and Kwara State Scholarship Board over their failures to ensure transparency in the disbursement of 2025 Law school scholarship.
The petition was signed by the President, Abdulrauf Abdulbasit and the General Secretary of the Association, Abdulhafeez Sidiq, and equally submitted to the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command to query the commissioner and scholarship board. NAKLAS (NHq) agitated that only few students among the 241 students claimed by the Commissioner were able to see the scholarship disbursement—the Association made several attempts to see the list of beneficiaries, but it proved abortive.
In the petition, the Association has earlier requested the support of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin branch, to intervene about possible financial impropriety in the disbursement of scholarship, the NBA also requested the list of beneficiaries from the commissioner but the list weren’t given to them.
The law scholarship is an annual scholarship provided for only Kwara state law students going for law school in Nigeria. The scholarship only covered Two Hundred Thousand Naira for the indigene of Kwara state to cater for their needs while studying.
The complaint of the affected students raised the petition against the commissioner and the scholarship board.
