The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion ahead of the Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” cycling race scheduled to hold on Sunday, January 11, between 5:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the plan in a statement issued on Saturday, explaining that the event is a 170-kilometre cycling race organised by the Dynastar Sport and Education Foundation.
According to him, the race will be run on two routes. The 70-kilometre route will begin at Eko Atlantic, pass through Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway and Sangotedo, before returning to Eko Atlantic as the finishing point.
The longer 170-kilometre route will also start from Eko Atlantic and follow Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway and Sangotedo, extending to Epe T-Junction, Ita Marun Junction, Poka-Araga Road, Oke Osho Junction and Temu Road, before looping back through Epe T-Junction to Eko Atlantic.
Osiyemi said traffic along adjoining roads, junctions and intersections on the race routes would be regulated by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority alongside other security agencies to prevent unauthorised access.
He noted that the affected roads would remain partially open and urged motorists to be patient, cooperate with traffic officials and obey all traffic directives put in place to ensure the safety of both participants and other road users.
The Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” is a mass-participation cycling event aimed at promoting sports tourism, healthy living and sustainable transportation. The state government said the race would also showcase Lagos’ infrastructure, coastal scenery and vibrant culture.
