The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has earmarked a combined N2.3 billion in Nigeria’s 2026 approved budget for infrastructure expansion and the purchase of vehicles.
A review of the budget shows that N1.1 billion has been allocated for the construction of an office annex intended to serve as residential quarters for presidential aides.
In addition, the office plans to spend N1.2 billion on the procurement of sport utility vehicles and other automobiles.
The vehicle allocation covers the purchase of Toyota SUVs, saloon cars, and double-cabin pick-up trucks.
Further examination of the budget indicates that the OSGF also set aside N496 million for office equipment and furnishings.
The items include heavy-duty photocopying machines and office furniture for use within the cabinet affairs office.
Past budget records reveal similar spending patterns.
In the 2025 approved budget, the OSGF allocated N400 million for the supply and distribution of grinding machines across three federal constituencies: Ifako-Ijaiye in Lagos State, Bonny/Degema in Rivers State, and Kaduna South in Kaduna State.
Additionally, the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology allocated N195 million in its 2025 budget for the procurement of grinding machines for communities in Birnin Kebbi, Aliero, and Maiyama.
Meanwhile, spending by the SGF’s office has previously drawn public attention following disclosures from the federal government’s payment portal, Govspend. Records showed that N9.6 million was paid in December 2023 for the production of branded towels as souvenirs for the 70th birthday celebration of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
Akume, who assumed office in June 2023, marked his birthday later that month with a public celebration held in his hometown in Benue State.
The latest budget allocations come amid continued scrutiny of government spending and calls for greater transparency in public finance management.
