The Federal Government has signed and unveiled a renegotiated agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in a move aimed at ending recurring strikes in Nigeria’s public universities.
The agreement was formally unveiled on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in Abuja.
The signing ceremony was presided over by Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, alongside Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, Minister of State for Education.
The renegotiated agreement is expected to address long-standing issues between the government and the university lecturers’ union, which have often resulted in prolonged industrial actions and disruptions to academic activities across public tertiary institutions.
Further details of the agreement are expected to be released by the government.
