The Nigeria Police Force has advised Nigerians to avoid confronting criminals during dangerous situations, urging members of the public to prioritise their personal safety above all else.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, gave the advice during an interview on a television programme, where he cautioned citizens against struggling or fighting back when faced with armed or violent criminals.
Hundeyin explained that attempting to resist attackers could further endanger lives, stressing that personal safety should always come first. According to him, the police can pursue and apprehend offenders after such incidents, rather than citizens placing themselves in harm’s way.
He assured Nigerians that the police remain committed to combating crime across the country and continue to record successes in tackling criminal activities. Hundeyin disclosed that security operatives have made several arrests, including members of notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicates operating in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The police spokesperson also revealed that suspects linked to the recent killing of a lawyer in Abuja have been arrested. He added that the victim’s mobile phone has been recovered as part of ongoing investigations.
Hundeyin urged Nigerians to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting criminal incidents, while allowing security personnel to carry out their constitutional duty of protecting lives and property.
