Nigerian musicians Seun Kuti and Peter Okoye have put an end to their long-standing feud, which stemmed from political disagreements during the 2023 presidential election.
The rift began in February 2023 after Seun Kuti criticised Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate at the time, describing him as an opportunist incapable of fixing Nigeria. Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, had openly supported Obi, a difference that triggered a heated exchange between the two artistes on social media.
Their dispute, which lasted several years, appears to have been resolved following the circulation of a viral video showing both men embracing at a nightclub. In the footage, the Afrobeat singer is heard telling Okoye that artistes should not be divided over politicians.
Both musicians were seen smiling and nodding in agreement, suggesting that they had moved past their differences.
Peter Okoye is one half of the defunct music duo P-Square and remains one of Nigeria’s most influential pop stars. Seun Kuti, the son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is widely known for his politically conscious music and outspoken views on social issues.
Since releasing his debut album Many Things in 2008, Seun has built a strong following among Afrobeat fans, with several albums and extended plays to his credit.
