The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has pledged a hitch-free conduct of its ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration exercise, announcing an ambitious target of at least 350,000 registered members by the end of the process on January 30, 2026.
The state leadership made the declaration in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, amid preparations to strengthen grassroots structures and build momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the national level, the APC recently flagged off a fresh electronic registration exercise across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, aimed at capturing the personal details of both existing and new members in a central database to enhance the party’s planning, strategy and overall organisational management.
Sadare explained that Oyo APC did not begin the exercise simultaneously with many other state chapters due to early logistical and supply challenges, but said those issues had now been resolved.
“We could not start the registration exercise on the same day with most of the state chapters because there were some challenges which revolved around logistics, supply and a few other things,” he said.
“But we turned things around and we were able to overcome all the challenges. They showcased the same form of energy and passion with which they facilitated the Open Air Stakeholders’ Meetings carried out in all 14 federal constituencies and our Pacesetters status was restored.”
Looking ahead to the conclusion of the exercise on January 30, Sadare expressed confidence that the party would far exceed its membership goals.
“Other things being equal, our great party would be able to boast of over 350,000 organic members at the end of the exercise … and the figure would be maximally used to facilitate the realisation of our two core objectives ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
Sadare recalled the APC’s performance in the 2023 presidential election in Oyo State, noting that the party garnered 449,884 votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the state. He said the registration drive is expected to increase that figure by about 40 per cent while mobilising support to “reclaim power in the state” in the next general poll.
To further deepen participation, the APC urged residents across all 33 local government areas in Oyo State to take part in the registration. Sadare said the process was not only a route to party membership but also an opportunity for residents to signal their support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, a theme echoed across APC registration efforts nationwide.
“Every resident who is 18 years of age and above should visit the registration centres with their National Identification Number, Permanent Voter Card and other personal information details to get registered with a view to participating in all party activities,” the statement added.
Across the country, the APC’s electronic registration drive forms part of a broader strategy to consolidate party strength, update its membership data and energise supporters ahead of primary elections and the general polls. Similar efforts in states such as Rivers show the party setting separate registration targets, for example aiming for millions of members in larger states, as part of the nationwide push.
Observers say that capturing credible membership data could be pivotal to internal party organisation and electoral mobilisation, as parties increasingly rely on digital platforms to manage structures and conduct internal processes.
