Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the eldest son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces, has publicly claimed that 22 members of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) were killed during Uganda’s recent elections. He also suggested that opposition leader Bobi Wine is the “next target,” referring to him as the “twenty-third” person. The statement was made on his official social media account.
Bobi Wine recently said he narrowly escaped a military and police raid on his home in Magere, during which helicopters hovered overhead and some of his family members were detained. He condemned the raid, described the presidential election results as fraudulent, and criticized the targeting of opposition candidates. Wine also denounced the use of violence against protesters and reaffirmed the Ugandan people’s right to defend their choice of government.
Reports indicate that opposition affiliates, including campaign agents of NUP MPs, have been killed in security operations, raising serious concerns over the safety of opposition members and the transparency of the electoral process.
