The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has directed all departments and agencies to commence attendance-taking and maintain staff registers following a court order suspending the ongoing strike by workers.
The directive was issued by the Acting Head of the Civil Service of the Federal Capital Territory, Mrs Nancy Sabanti Nathan, in a circular dated January 27, 2026, and addressed to all Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments.
According to the circular, all staff across the various secretariats, departments, and agencies are required to resume work immediately at their respective duty posts to ensure the continuity of government operations.
The instruction followed a ruling by Justice E. D. Subilim of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), who ordered the suspension of the strike action embarked upon by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC).
Mrs Nathan stated that senior officials must ensure the directive is effectively communicated to all personnel to guarantee full and immediate compliance with the court order. She also reiterated the FCTA Management’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of its workforce.
Earlier on Tuesday, the NICN granted an interlocutory injunction restraining JUAC and its leadership from continuing the industrial action, following a suit filed by the Minister of the FCT and the FCTA.
In his ruling, Justice Subilim held that while the dispute qualifies as a trade dispute, the right of workers to embark on strike is not absolute. He ruled that once a dispute has been referred to the National Industrial Court, workers are prohibited from participating in any industrial action, and any ongoing strike must cease pending the determination of the case.
The court adjourned the matter to March 23, 2026, for hearing of the substantive suit.
