The Federal Government has confirmed that electricity supply across affected parts of the country has been fully restored following a disturbance on the national grid on Tuesday.
In a statement released by the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO), the grid incident occurred at about 10:48 a.m. and was traced to a voltage disturbance at the Gombe Transmission Substation.
According to NISO, the disturbance quickly spread across the transmission network, affecting key substations including Jebba, Kainji and Ayede, and leading to the tripping of some transmission lines and power-generating units.
The agency explained that immediate corrective measures were taken to stabilise the system, with restoration efforts commencing around 11:11 a.m. the same day.
“The national grid experienced a voltage disturbance which originated from the Gombe Transmission Substation. The disturbance propagated across parts of the network, resulting in a partial system collapse,” NISO said.
It clarified that the incident did not amount to a total grid collapse, contrary to reports circulating earlier, as only sections of the network were affected.
NISO added that electricity supply has since been restored nationwide, with power returning to normal across the impacted areas.
The incident marks the second grid disturbance recorded since Friday last week, renewing concerns over the stability of Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure.
