The Jigawa State Government has formally approved ₦2.6 billion to support its citizens participating in the 2026 Hajj exercise, a key religious pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. The funding was sanctioned at the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday in Dutse, according to official statements.
Commissioner for Information Sagir Musa disclosed the approved budget while briefing journalists on the outcome of the council’s deliberations. He explained that the allocation was aimed at ensuring the safe, efficient and comfortable transportation and welfare of intending pilgrims from the state.
“This is to ensure a hitch-free pilgrimage for all pilgrims from the state as they embark on the holy journey,” Musa said, stressing the government’s commitment to a flawless exercise.
According to Musa, the ₦2.6 billion will cover several critical components of the Hajj operation, including: Air transportation for pilgrims to and from Saudi Arabia, accommodation and feeding arrangements during the pilgrimage, medical services to safeguard the health of all participants, orientation programmes to prepare pilgrims ahead of the journey, and other logistical support required to facilitate the exercise.
He highlighted that the government’s actions were aligned with regulatory guidelines set by Saudi authorities, underscoring transparency and accountability in the management of the funds.
Musa also stated that relevant state agencies have been directed to cooperate closely to ensure that pilgrims can fulfill their religious obligations “without hardship.”
This government funding approval comes amid broader preparations for Hajj across several states in Nigeria, including medical screenings and fitness assessments for pilgrims, a procedural requirement that ensures compliance with health regulations as stipulated by Saudi authorities.
