The Inspector-General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, on Friday warmly welcomed the newly appointed Federal Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Oyedepo Rotimi, SAN, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, pledging unreserved support from the Nigeria Police Force in advancing the nation’s justice system.
The courtesy visit, confirmed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, took place at the force’s central command, where senior officers and legal officials were in attendance.
Rotimi, who was recently transferred from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Federal Ministry of Justice, expressed deep appreciation for the reception and underscored his commitment to fostering a robust working relationship with the police.
Addressing the gathering, Rotimi emphasized the critical role of collaboration between prosecutorial authorities and law enforcement agencies. He stated, “The importance of collaboration in ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law” cannot be overstated, affirming his resolve to work closely with the police in executing his mandate.
In response, IG Egbetokun congratulated Rotimi on his appointment, lauding his wealth of experience and dedication to public service. He assured that the Nigeria Police Force would provide full support to the Office of the DPP. “We will work closely with the DPP’s office to ensure the success of his new role,” the IG said, signalling a renewed commitment to synergy between prosecution and policing.
The appointment of Rotimi, aged 42, was approved by President Bola Tinubu and communicated in a December 23 letter by the Federal Civil Service Commission, which stated that his posting was made “in the public interest.” Prior to this role, Rotimi served at the EFCC, where he was recognised for his work in prosecuting high-profile financial crimes.
The meeting marks an early step toward strengthening cooperation between prosecutorial and investigative arms of Nigeria’s criminal justice system, amid ongoing national efforts to enhance accountability and the rule of law.
