A Magistrate Court in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has set aside the arrest warrant previously issued against the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Bosede Osamaye, due to her failure to appear in court.
The warrant was issued following a case filed against the commissioner regarding an alleged assault on Chief Magistrate Mrs. Temitope Alphonso, reportedly committed in the presence of Ministry of Women Affairs staff.
When the matter was brought to the court, the defendant’s counsel, Barrister A.K. Adewusi, requested the court to vacate the arrest order, presenting a second medical report to explain the commissioner’s absence from the previous sitting.
Counsel for the claimant, Barrister Victor Ajayi, did not contest the application, stating that both parties were present in court and that negotiations for an out-of-court settlement were ongoing.
After admitting the medical report as evidence, the presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, set aside the arrest warrant, ruling that the commissioner’s court appearance rendered the earlier order an academic exercise overtaken by events.
The court subsequently granted Mrs. Osamaye bail on self-recognizance and instructed her to provide a written undertaking to appear in court at all times until the conclusion of the case.
The matter was adjourned to February 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
