A socio-cultural group from Abia State has pledged ₦100 million to back Governor Alex Otti’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 governorship election, signaling early political mobilisation in the state.
The pledge was announced by the Ukwa La Ngwa people during a civic reception organised in the governor’s honour at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. According to a statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, the funds were jointly contributed by members of the group and are intended to purchase Otti’s nomination form when the process begins.
Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and chairman of the event’s steering committee, Emmanuel Emeruwa, said the Ukwa La Ngwa community was united in its support for the governor and ready to make further contributions if required.
In his remarks, Governor Otti expressed appreciation for what he described as a strong show of confidence in his administration, noting that the large turnout reflected public approval of his leadership.
“This is your government. Governance in Abia is no longer about personal or partisan interests; it is about the people,” Otti said.
Elected in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, Otti highlighted infrastructure renewal, education and urban development as major priorities of his administration. He also announced that Ovom Road would be commissioned on February 25 and that reconstruction work on Enyimba Hotel would commence, with plans to transform it into a five-star facility managed by Radisson Blu.
The governor further urged residents of Aba to register for their Permanent Voter Cards, stressing that voter participation is key to political representation and accountability.
Chairman of the occasion and Board of Trustees Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Adolphus Wabara, described the event as a reflection of public satisfaction with the governor’s performance. Other political leaders, traditional rulers and cultural groups present also pledged continued support for Otti’s administration.
