Agbu Kefas, governor of Taraba state, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing the number of governors elected on the platform of the ruling party to 30.
The governor was formally received into the APC on Saturday at a ceremony held in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital. The event had earlier been postponed by the party in respect of members of the armed forces and civilians killed in terrorist attacks in November 2025.
At the ceremony, Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the APC, presented the party’s flag to Kefas, thereby affirming him as the party’s leader in Taraba state.
Yilwatda described the governor’s decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC as courageous and timely, noting that alignment with the ruling party at the federal level would enable Taraba state to benefit more from national programmes and interventions under President Bola Tinubu.
He said the APC remained open to Nigerians willing to join the party, stressing that all states governed by the party are treated equally.
“The APC is the party at the centre, and there is room for everyone who wants to contribute to national development,” he said, adding that Taraba state is as important as any other APC-governed state.
Also speaking, Ajibola Basiru, national secretary of the APC, described Kefas’ reception as a moment of celebration for the party. He said the APC has grown into the largest political party in Africa, with a presence across the country.
According to him, the party’s influence and reach now surpass those of many nations around the world.
In his remarks, Kefas said his decision to join the APC was guided by a clear sense of purpose and a desire to accelerate development in Taraba state.
He explained that the move was not motivated by political survival but by the need to strengthen governance and improve the welfare of the people.
“Today, I am not here to make noise but to make impact; not to play politics but to lead with focus,” the governor said.
Kefas added that joining the APC would allow his administration to better pursue its development agenda and deliver meaningful progress to residents of Taraba state.
