Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has pledged a sum of ₦50 million towards the establishment of a Technology Innovation Hub at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, as part of efforts to strengthen innovation, research and youth development.
The governor made the announcement on Saturday during the 45th convocation ceremony of the university, where he was represented at the event.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sunusi Tofa, the donation was described as a collaborative initiative involving the Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Foundation and AMA Pharmaceuticals Limited.
According to the statement, the innovation hub is designed to promote skills development, entrepreneurship, leadership training and socio-economic inclusion, particularly among young people and women.
Governor Yusuf said the intervention reflects his administration’s development agenda, which places strong emphasis on education, innovation and human capital growth as drivers of sustainable progress.
He noted that the Kano State Government remains committed to forming strategic partnerships with credible institutions and organisations whose programmes contribute to long-term economic growth and social advancement.
The governor commended Alhaji Musa Bello for spearheading efforts towards the establishment of the innovation hub and praised the collaboration between the foundation and AMA Pharmaceuticals, describing it as a forward-thinking initiative capable of boosting research and entrepreneurial activity within the university community.
Yusuf further reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to continue working with development partners, foundations and civil society groups to advance inclusive development and improve the welfare of citizens.
The convocation ceremony also featured the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science degree on former Minister of Finance and Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to public service, leadership and global development.
