The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has unveiled its ambitious strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring a bold target to capture all three senatorial seats and seven House of Representatives positions in the National Assembly. The declaration came from the party’s state chairman, Muhammed Sanni Gambo, who spoke on Saturday during a grassroots outreach event in Adavi Local Government Area.
Addressing party supporters and activists at a gathering organised by the Natasha Avabe Group in Zango Citi, Gambo restated the opposition party’s vision for governance grounded in inclusivity, fairness and equity. He described the PDP as the answer to Nigeria’s multifaceted challenges, especially in Kogi State, where political dynamics have tightened ahead of the next poll.
“Our plan is to produce three Senators and seven Representative members in the next general election,” Gambo declared, emphasising the party’s confidence in its candidates and organisational strength. “PDP has the answers to all the challenges being faced in Nigeria and Kogi State in particular.”
The party chairman lauded current PDP officeholders for what he described as achievements that resonate with ordinary citizens. He singled out Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central as a standout performer whose representation has helped raise the PDP’s profile in the state. Gambo’s remarks reflect wider recognition of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s influence, an influence further highlighted in recent political commentary about her positioning in the 2027 contest against former Governor Yahaya Bello.
Gambo appealed directly to undecided voters and political actors across the state, urging them to join the PDP fold. “We want to carry everybody along, women, youths, and every community across Kogi’s three senatorial districts,” he said, reiterating the party’s commitment to a people-centric approach to governance.
He also assured that the PDP would prioritise women and youth empowerment, pledging structured initiatives and support mechanisms for these key demographic groups. The pledge aligns with recent commitments by the party in the state to enhance female participation and leadership within its structures and electoral agenda.
The choice of Adavi, a stronghold of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, as the venue for the reaffirmation of the party’s 2027 goals was widely viewed as a tactical move to consolidate support around the senator’s growing political appeal. Attendees described the event as a rallying cry to build on PDP’s performance in the 2023 cycle, particularly in Kogi Central, where the party made significant inroads.
