Award-winning Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has spoken publicly following his loss in the Best African Music Performance category at the 68th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles, United States.
The five-time Grammy nominee shared messages of faith and resilience after the award ceremony, which took place on Sunday night at the Crypto.com Arena in California.
Shortly after the event, Davido posted photos with his wife, Chioma, on Instagram, accompanied by the caption, “Oluwa Dey my side,” alongside prayer and music emojis. Hours later, he shared another set of pictures from the Grammys, reflecting on the outcome with a longer message.
“I said baby listen we lost again let’s not go! She said, ‘Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.’ We outside,” the singer wrote.
Chioma also took to Instagram to celebrate her husband, describing him as “the perfect one” while sharing photos from the awards night.
Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his song With You featuring Omah Lay but lost to South African singer Tyla, who won with her track Push 2 Start. Other nominees included Burna Boy (Love), Ayra Starr and Wizkid (Gimme Dat), and Eddy Kenzo with Mehran Matin (Hope & Love).
The win marked Tyla’s second Grammy Award, following her 2024 victory for Water.
Speaking during the ceremony, Davido revealed that With You almost did not make the final tracklist of his fifth studio album, 5IVE. According to him, the song was initially not considered a standout track but later grew into one of his most emotionally significant performances.
The singer also recounted how he learned of his Grammy nomination while in Dubai, describing the news as unexpected and deeply humbling.
Released in April 2025 as the 17th track on 5IVE, With You has since surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify, becoming one of Davido’s most successful recent records.
Despite the song’s commercial success, Nigeria did not secure a win at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Davido has since shifted focus to touring and new music projects. He is also scheduled to perform at Coachella 2026, where he will be the only Nigerian artiste on the lineup, with performances slated for April 11 and April 18, 2026, in Indio, California.
