The Yobe State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for an 18-year-old woman, Khadija Jamilu, following an alleged stabbing attack on her husband in the Potiskum Local Government Area of the state. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, has left the 25-year-old victim receiving emergency treatment at a federal medical facility, police confirmed.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, officers from the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a distress call at about 3:00 pm, signaling that a serious domestic confrontation had taken place.
“On February 6, 2026, at about 0100 hours, the suspect, Khadija Jamilu, an 18-year-old female of Potiskum Local Government Area, allegedly attacked her husband, aged 25 years, using a knife and inflicted a deep cut injury on his genital organ,” the police spokesperson said in the statement.
Abdulkarim said the injured man was initially rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, where he received urgent care before being referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, Bauchi State for further treatment. He is currently in stable condition, according to police sources.
The suspect, Khadija Jamilu, fled the scene immediately after the attack, prompting police to mount a search operation across Potiskum and surrounding communities. No arrest had been made as of the latest update.
In addressing the troubling incident, Yobe State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, stressed the need for peaceful conflict resolution in marital relationships.
“Marriage should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance. Marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation,” CP Ado said in a message that accompanied the police statement.
He urged couples and potential spouses to seek proper counselling and engage elders, religious leaders, or trusted community mediators before disputes escalate into violence. The commissioner also called on community leaders and stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns on healthy relationships, conflict management, and the dangers of domestic violence.
While the Yobe police focus on apprehending the suspect in this case, the incident adds to a series of reported domestic violence episodes in the region and across the country, underscoring concerns about family conflict and interpersonal violence. Authorities and social commentators have repeatedly highlighted the importance of early intervention and societal support systems to address the root causes of such disputes.
