Bolaji Abdullahi, national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has described the recent wave of violent attacks in parts of the country as evidence that Nigeria lacks effective governance.
In a post on his X handle on Saturday, Abdullahi said the killings in Kwara, Katsina, and other states demonstrate what he termed a failure of government authority. He referenced a 2014 statement made by President Bola Tinubu, who at the time, as former governor of Lagos, wrote that persistent Boko Haram attacks in the North-East were “concrete proof that Nigeria has no government.”
That comment has resurfaced in recent weeks and has been widely cited by critics of the Tinubu administration amid rising insecurity across the country.
Echoing the president’s earlier words, Abdullahi wrote: “The festering insecurity and violent attacks in Kwara, Katsina and other parts of the country, and massacre of innocent Nigerians is concrete proof that Nigeria has no government.”
The statement comes against the backdrop of renewed violence in several communities nationwide, particularly in the northern region.
Recent Attacks
Since the beginning of the year, multiple states have recorded deadly attacks linked to terrorists and bandits. On February 2, suspected Boko Haram fighters killed at least 17 people in Guzamala-Abbari village and parts of Nganzai local government area of Borno State.
On February 3, bandits reportedly killed no fewer than 20 residents in the Doma A and Doma B communities of Tafoki ward in Faskari local government area of Katsina State.
Similarly, on February 4, terrorists attacked Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama local government area of Kwara State, killing at least 75 people and setting several houses ablaze.
The renewed violence has intensified public criticism of the federal government’s handling of security challenges across the country.
