Lagos was shaken by the sudden deaths of gospel artist Matthew Ogundele and three others—Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya (aka JoesTv)—at a music studio in Ajah.
The victims were invited to perform at a three-day birthday praise event organized by gospel singer Olanireti Akinbola in the Abraham Adesanya area. After performing late on Tuesday night, the group decided to sleep in the studio due to the distance from their homes.
Their bodies were discovered the following morning inside the locked studio. According to a police source, the studio owner found the door locked around 11 a.m. and had to force it open to gain access.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the deaths, noting that there were no apparent signs of violence. The corpses were first taken to Mainland Hospital, Yaba, for pronouncement and later moved to the mortuary for autopsy.
Images circulating online showing blood around the victims’ noses, ears, and mouths have fueled public concern. While some Christian bloggers speculate the deaths occurred in their sleep, authorities have yet to confirm the cause.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba, for further investigation. Friends, fans, and colleagues are urging full transparency and justice for the deceased.
