The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has formally unveiled a new radio station, Majority FM 89.5, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in a move that political observers say signals deepening mobilisation ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anticipated 2027 re‑election campaign.
The station, housed within the headquarters of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a pro‑Tinubu political movement, was commissioned on Saturday in what supporters described as a strategic effort to bolster grassroots outreach across the South‑South region.
A video circulating on social media and shared by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, showed the minister touring the newly inaugurated facility. In the footage, Wike is seen moving through the station’s studio, interacting with staff and inspecting technical equipment, underscoring the operational readiness of the broadcast outfit.
In his post on X, Olayinka wrote, “Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors don get Radio Station on top Tinubu’s matter. It is Majority FM 89.5 located right inside the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ office in Port Harcourt that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike just commissioned.”
At the commissioning event, Wike positioned the radio station as a vital platform for disseminating political messages throughout the state’s broad network of communities. “This will take messages from all over the 6,866 units of River State. We are ready for this job. We are ready for 2027,” he said, emphasising the role of Majority FM in amplifying voices from grassroots units.
Political analysts view the launch as part of a broader mobilisation push in Rivers, where efforts to build support for President Tinubu’s second term are accelerating. The Renewed Hope Ambassadors, with a presence across many local units, intend to use the station not just for political advocacy but also to unify supporters under a cohesive campaign narrative.
The decision to base Majority FM 89.5 within the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ headquarters highlights the intertwining of political organisation and media strategy in the state.
