The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has rejected claims that it imports petrol into Nigeria, describing the reports as misleading and deliberately false.
In a statement issued on Monday, the refinery said it has identified individuals behind the narrative and will disclose their identities and motives at the appropriate time. It explained that it only imports intermediate feedstocks and blending components required for further processing, not finished petroleum products.
According to the company, the claims—circulated through newspaper adverts and reports attributed to an international intelligence firm—misrepresent its operations and distort public understanding of Nigeria’s refining progress.
The refinery clarified that importing such feedstocks is a standard global practice among advanced refineries and stressed that the only petrol it supplies to the Nigerian market is its Euro 5–compliant Premium Motor Spirit, which undergoes strict quality checks.
Dangote Refinery warned that those spreading the false narrative are attempting to undermine Nigeria’s move toward energy self-sufficiency and vowed to pursue legal action against them.
