BREAKING: 2027 race on top gear as INEC announces timetable, schedule

The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially announced the timetable for the 2027 general elections, outlining dates for the presidential, governorship and legislative contests nationwide.

The announcement was made on Friday at a press briefing in Abuja, where the electoral body addressed widespread reports that the election timetable had earlier been made public.

Speaking during the briefing, the commission’s chairman, Joash Amupitan, described the earlier claims as incorrect, stating that the commission had only now formally released the official schedule.

He noted that the timetable was prepared in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as well as the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, adding that the commission followed all legal requirements in fixing the election dates.

Amupitan disclosed that the presidential election will take place on February 20, 2027, while governorship, senatorial and other elections are slated for March 6, 2027.
