Students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Ekheuan Campus, staged a protest on Friday over prolonged electricity blackout and acute water shortage affecting the campus.
The demonstrators, largely made up of undergraduates residing in hostels, expressed frustration over what they described as deteriorating living conditions, saying the situation had disrupted academic and domestic activities.
According to reports from the campus, the students blocked sections of the premises while chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards to draw attention to their grievances. Some protesters alleged that the power outage and lack of water had persisted for an extended period without a clear resolution from the authorities.
Several students who spoke during the protest said the absence of basic utilities had made daily life difficult, forcing many to seek alternative sources of water and lighting.
They called on the university management and relevant government agencies to urgently intervene and restore normal services, warning that continued neglect could escalate tensions.
As of the time of filing this report, the university authorities had yet to issue an official statement regarding the protest.
