In a pointed Facebook post on Tuesday, activist Omoyele Sowore launched a sharp critique of the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, following violent incidents involving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Sowore’s comments come amidst rising public outrage over the ongoing turmoil within the party, which has reportedly escalated into violent confrontations.
He cited violent attacks against APC members that he claims are linked to thugs from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). Recalling a previous incident from June 12, 2025, he noted that a peaceful protest encountered a violent crackdown allegedly orchestrated by the governor.
“What happened today in Akure, the Ondo State capital, was another clear reminder of how far this governor is willing to go,” Sowore stated, referring to a violent clash that erupted as APC stakeholders gathered to plan a party congress. He accused Aiyedatiwa of pursuing a personal agenda to secure a third term, despite constitutional limitations.
Sowore alleged, “During the June 12 protest in 2025, we uncovered disturbing details about how Governor Aiyedatiwa allegedly imported killers from Ekiti State, using his Chief of Protocol, Abayomi Olasanya, to mobilise thugs and violent enforcers.” He claimed that these thugs were subsequently rewarded with control over revenue collection in Ondo State and named several individuals purportedly involved in these activities.
The activist warned that Aiyedatiwa’s pattern of behaviour poses a significant danger to public safety, declaring, “It is only a matter of time before this violence spirals further out of control.” He highlighted a recent attack on APC party chairman Ade Adetimehin and others, stressing that victims are currently enduring life-threatening injuries.
Sowore also criticized the response of the incumbent Ondo State Commissioner of Police, suggesting that the police intervened only after the violence had occurred, and expressed concern about the state’s safety under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
Moreover, it is noteworthy that, to date, neither Aiyedatiwa nor his entourage has responded to or addressed the accusations levied against him by prominent indigenes of Ondo State, both in the media and on social media platforms. This silence amidst escalating tensions has left many citizens questioning the governor’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
As the situation in Ondo State continues to worsen, Sowore urged the public to recognize the dangers posed by the governor, stating, “The earlier the people of Ondo State understand how dangerous Lucky Aiyedatiwa is, the safer the state will be.”
The escalating crisis within the APC and the associated violence raise serious questions about governance and public safety in Ondo State, as citizens and political stakeholders alike grapple with the implications of these events.
