A 23-year-old man, Abidemi Emmanuel, has been remanded in a correctional facility by a Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State over the alleged rape of a Lagos-based content creator, Fems Thrift, and her friend.
The defendant was brought before the court on Tuesday on allegations of sexual assault.
After taking his plea, the magistrate ordered that he be kept in custody pending further proceedings and adjourned the case until March 19, 2026.
Speaking on the development, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the suspect had been remanded following his arraignment.
She added that investigations into the matter were still in progress.
“The suspect has been arraigned and remanded in a correctional facility. The case has been adjourned till March 19, 2026. Investigation is still ongoing,” she said.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred on February 8, 2026, at Ajao Estate, Lagos, where Emmanuel was said to have invited the victims under the pretext of offering a modelling job.
According to accounts shared by the content creator in a video that gained traction online, the suspect initially contacted her through Instagram, claiming he had returned from the United Kingdom to launch a fashion brand in Nigeria.
He allegedly promised to pay her N140,000 for a modelling assignment and requested that she use her social media presence to publicise the brand.
She recounted that she visited the apartment around 11 a.m. accompanied by her friend for security reasons, but found the residence largely empty.
The suspect was accused of threatening the two women with a knife, restraining them, and sexually assaulting them.
He was also alleged to have confiscated their phones and transferred sensitive materials to his device, while threatening to release the content on social media if they reported him.
Emmanuel was subsequently apprehended on February 14, 2026, after the incident sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms.
The Police disclosed that the case is currently being handled by the Gender Unit of the command as investigations continue.
